Workshop: printing on fabric

Arizona Fiber Arts Retreat in Prescott, AZ

Learn to create one-of-a-kind printed fabrics filled with pattern and color!  This class will provide instruction in the surface design technique mono-printing with plexiglass on fabric made from natural fibers.  Demonstrations will be given to show multiple methods in the design process.  With the use of transparent water-based, custom mixed pigments you can achieve multiple color overlays while exploring texture and patterns.  You will experience the beginning, middle and the end result of the development of a hand-printed textile with both random printing and repeat using grid registration.

You will learn the time-honored tradition of embroidering by hand - on both fabric and paper! Basic stitches will be demonstrated and everyone will have a chance to practice each stitch. You will use embroidery, appliqués and collage techniques to create a custom fine art piece. Push the boundaries of embroidery to create custom art pieces that include fabric, paper and collage!

workshop: Printed textiles

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN

October 27, 2019 – November 2, 2019

This workshop pushes the student’s creativity while they produce beautiful and colorful pattern on cloth made from natural fibers. You will study how to design and print fabric using custom mixed pigments with an infinite color palette. Using processes of simple mono printing and screen printing, participants explore the development of a structured textile repeat. With the use of color overlays, personal images and visual textures you will design small compositions and understand how to create yardage. A variety of stencil methods are introduced including contact paper, wax crayon and photographic emulsion. Participants will learn from scratch, expand their knowledge and perfect their skills. Open to all skill levels.
